A flange nut is a hex nut with an extended circular base spreading out from the bottom of the nut, acting as an integrated, non-spinning washer. Flange nuts are used to speed up assembly operations or in applications where their large bearing surface can cover big holes / slots. These flange nuts comply with DIN (German Institute for Standardisation), ISO (International Organization for Standardisation), JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards), NAS (National Aerospace Standards) and military standards.
Hex flange nuts are hex nuts with a broad flanged portion near one end to serve as a built-in, non-spinning washer. Flange nuts spread the load placed on the nut over a broad surface area to prevent the deterioration of the installation material.
A flange nut can be tightened with a wrench or ratchet (of suitable size) after threading it onto the end of the bolt being installed.
The in-built washer of flange nuts operates in the same way as a standard washer, offering a larger area to disperse the nut's pressure over the part being secured. Selected flanges come with serrations that bite into the material, making them less prone to loosening over time due to vibrations.
