Hex Spacers

Hex spacers are used to precisely position fasteners like screws & bolts and increase the distance between components being fastened. They allow the fastener to be properly torqued by acting as a clearance gap between the fastener head & the surface being driven into and not allowing the fastener to be driven all the way in. Raptor Supplies offers hex spacers from brands like Morse Drum, Grainger and Spears Valves for use in power plants and the chemical & electronics industries. They feature a hexagonal profile with external flats for a firm grip using a wrench to hold them in place while assembling & applying torque.

Features

  • Hex spacers have a hollow body for passing the shaft of a fastener completely through them before entering the surface material.
  • They are generally made of like steel, but other materials can be used for selected applications. Nylon is used when non-conductivity is required.
  • Most nylon / steel spacers come with female threading to allow attachment of fasteners or other components from both sides and use as female-female standoffs.
  • They provide a gap between components for airflow to dissipate heat and for electrical isolation.

What is the difference between hex spacers and hex standoffs?

Hex spacers are similar to hex standoffs. But unlike spacers, standoffs always include a threaded shaft or hole. Standoffs also come in diverse gender configurations like male-male, female-female & male-female. Spacers can act as female-female standoffs if they have threading.

Can washers be used as spacers?

Spacers have a design containing a length of tube for inserting a fastener. Therefore, a short spacer may look like a thick washer. Washers are sometimes used in place of small spacers.
