Dynaform square nuts are four-sided nuts that work with a square head bolt and a flat washer. They have more surface contact with the part being fastened than a standard hex nut and provide more resistance to loosening. They also work well in tight spaces when used with pliers or a wrench and are less likely to round off after repeated loosening / tightening cycles. However, the square head design leaves sharp corners that can sometimes damage the wood or metal that surrounds the nut.
