E-Z LOK thread repair kits provide a permanent bond, so they only need to be used once. However, in some cases, the repair may need to be redone if the thread insert becomes loose over time due to external factors.
Self-locking inserts allow permanent repair without the need for external locking devices. They have a barbed or knurled surface on the outer diameter that creates a mechanical interlock between the insert and the surrounding material during installation. The interlock creates a secure connection that can withstand high loads and vibrations.
A tang tool is needed to remove the driving tangs of inserts to avoid their interference with the end of the assembled bolt. It is automatically operated using a spring-loaded, easily triggered punch that strikes a sharp, uniform blow against the tang of the installed insert.
