The sensitivity controls how much light the sensor needs to detect an object. Adjusting the sensitivity can help the sensor to detect or ignore objects easily that are not relevant.
The sensitivity can be adjusted via a potentiometer or trimmer on the device.
Retro-reflective sensors use a target to reflect light to the sensor and sense an object that breaks the beam's path. The diffuse reflective sensors sense an object when the light beam is reflected to the sensor.
Photoelectric sensors use a beam of light directed towards the object and detect its presence by sensing the interruption or reflection of the beam. Proximity sensors detect the presence of an object by sensing its proximity to the sensor.
