Thermal overload protection in a circuit breaker is a safety feature that allows protection from excessive heat generated by the current flow. The protector monitors the temperature of the device if the temperature exceeds a certain threshold due to the usage of a bimetallic strip (a type of thermostat) that changes shape when it gets hot and trips the breaker, thus shutting off the power to the device.
An arc chute assembly is a component designed to control and extinguish arcs that may occur during the operation. It consists of metal plates, known as arc runners and arc contacts, arranged in a specific pattern to create a path for the arc to flow. When the circuit breaker interrupts the current flow, an arc is created which is then guided by the arc chute assembly to move along a pre-determined path, thus preventing the device from damage.
A mechanical trip indicator is used for indicating when the device has tripped due to an electrical fault or other abnormal condition. It features a flag or lever that moves to a different position when the device has been tripped and indicates the status of the device.
