Frequently Asked Questions
What is a TEFC enclosure?
A totally enclosed fan-cooled (TEFC) motor has a frame that prevents air exchange between the inside and outside of the motor. This prevents airborne contamination and to a lesser extent, liquids from entering the motor. An external fan blows air over the frame to cool the motor, and the frame is ribbed to increase the surface area for heat dissipation.
What is Class I Division 1?
Division 1 is a subset of Class I. It is defined as an area where explosive or flammable gases, vapours or liquids can exist under normal, everyday operating conditions.
What kinds of environment are these motors used in?
These motors are intended for environments where flammable vapours or gases (such as propane, ethylene & methane) are present. These explosion-proof motors are also suitable for areas with combustible dust (charcoal / carbon black / grain dust).
