Aquasol AFBT-2.5 fibreglass backing tape is ideal for welding plate-to-plate, pressure vessels, sheet-to-sheet, tanks & large diameter pipes and longitudinal & circumferential seams. It is a substitute for conventional back purging.
Features:
- Aquasol AFBT-2.5 fibreglass backing tape features halogen and chlorofluorocarbon-free acrylic base adhesive to ensure a safe working environment.
- This Fiback backing tape comes with finely and tightly woven unadulterated fibreglass for creating a continuous bead for taping lengthy applications.
- It has two adhesive areas near the outer edge with a centre fibreglass strip providing heat resistance up to 1022 degrees F.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. What is the maximum current rating that Aquasol AFBT-2.5 fibreglass backing tape can withstand?
A. 600A
Q. What metals are suitable for this Fiback tape?
A. It is suitable for stainless steel and duplex stainless steel.
Q. What are the types of weldings where Aquasol AFBT-2.5 Fiback tape can be used?
A. This Fiback backing tape is ideal for TIG, MIG and SMAW (stick) welding processes.
Q. What is back purging?
A. Back purging is used to prevent contamination in the environment by covering the inner surface of the weld with an inert gas while welding.
Q. How to install Aquasol AFBT-2.5 fibreglass backing tape?
A.
- Match the appropriate root gap with the suitable base metals. Over the rear of the root gap, centre the fibreglass strip.
- To restrict the purge gas entering from the torch's tip, place the fibreglass strip in a convex form away from the back of the weld region. However, do not let the fibreglass strip touch the weld.
- To centre the fibreglass strip over the weld joint and cover the entire length of the metals, press adhesive parts of tape along the sides. Let the component cool completely before removing the tape after welding is finished.
